For a second year Macromedia Director project we were tasked with finding a photographer and creating a Director based showpiece with their work in. I chose a photographer from the Netherlands, Karel van der Woude, who I found on deviantART. He takes photos that are a mix of macro photography and landscapes so I chose what my favourites for the showpiece, with his permission.
Despite Karel using a digital SLR, I decided to use a reel of negatives as my design focus – giving the impression as you move through the project as though you are viewing them through a slide projector. At the time, digital photography was still quite new, so the film reel theme would mean more people could understand the showpiece. Director’s own Lingo programming language was used to flip the reel forward and some now quite cheesy transitions were used for the intro animation and as you go from section to section.
Handily for making the intro movie, Karel had a selection of photos of a ladybird, which could be nicely moved between.
Right-click Save As… (28.9mb) to download the project as a self-running Director file, or look at some screenshots below. For some reason the movement of technology has meant some of the text is moved on to two lines in places.
