To complement the recent redesign of the Validis application website, our Flash video tour of the product had to be updated with the new look and feel. We took this opportunity to extend it and look at more features of the product, taking it from a single tour of two minutes that had been created before I joined to five tours varying between two and five minutes in length.

The process involved writing a script on the topic we wanted to display, recording the voiceover with a colleague and then taking screenshots and animating mouse movement and menus around them – all while keeping file size to a minimum and the visuals as clean as possible.

I wrote my own video playing flash swf to handle playback of these videos and movement between them, gradually adding in a moveable playhead and volume controls (along with subtitles on the video).
