3d modelling

Alias Maya and Adobe Photoshop

The main part of the second year course was a long module on 3d modelling. After the weekly assignments covering modelling, animation, texturing etc, the module finished with a project to model an early 20th Century car and to do an animated piece featuring it and a driver, for the made-up “Eau Rouge” driving festival.

I chose to use my uncle’s pre-war racing Connaught, and with the help of photos of all angles and measurements created the model over a month.

I cannot find the finished video peice that involves a driver climbing into the cockpit, turning the key and driving off, but I can find the promo image to go with it. I chose to go with a watercolour-esqe rendering style for it, and a faintly Art Deco style for the image.

While you only see the car from one angle, the final video had a 360 degree camera movement, so the whole car had to be designed.
